Curriculum
The courses offered by the postgraguate program “Physics of Atmospheric Environment and Global Change” for for obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma (D.M.S.) are semester-long and are divided into two categories: a) compulsory courses, and b) elective courses. In order to obtain the D.M.S, a total of 90 ECTS are required, of which 26 credits correspond to compulsory courses, 34 are completed by selecting six (6) of the elective courses, while 30 ECTS are credited with the completion of the Postgraduate Diploma Thesis.
The courses with the weekly hours, the corresponding ECTS credits per semester and the course coordinators can be found here and are also listed below:
FIRST SEMESTER
- Atmospheric physics and global change
- Quality of the atmospheric environment
- Environmental management and circular economy
- Environmental data analysis methods
- 1 elective course (see tables with Basic and Special elective courses)
SECOND SEMESTER
- 2 Basic Elective courses (see table with Basic Elective courses)
- 3 Special Elective courses (see table with Special Elective courses)
THIRD SEMESTER
- The Diploma Thesis is carried out under the supervision of a faculty member who teaches at the Postgraduate Program and is examined by a three-member examination committee, one member of which is the supervisor. See the Diploma Thesis regulation for more information.
BASIC ELECTIVE COURSES
- Atmospheric radiation and remote sensing
- Atmospheric measurements
- Air Quality Models
- Environmental impact assessment and evaluation tools
SPECIAL ELECTIVE COURSES
- Laboratory and field project
- Radiation transfer models
- Atmospheric aerosols
- Atmospheric circulation models
- Development of environmental information services
- Statistical analysis of time series
- Chemistry of the atmospheric environment
- Biogeochemical cycles
Final Grade of the Diploma
The grade of the Postgraduate Diploma (D.M.S.) is derived from the weighted average of the courses of the Postgraduate Program and the Diploma Thesis (the weighting depends on the ECTS credits of the courses) and is calculated, with an accuracy of two decimal places, in the following way: the grade of each course and the Diploma Thesis is multiplied by the corresponding number of credits (ECTS) and the sum of the products is divided by the minimum number of credits required to receive the MSc.
